How to find your Child Trust Fund
Short answer
If you know the provider, contact it directly. If you do not, HMRC can tell you where the account was originally opened. GOV.UK says: “You do not need to pay a company to find out where the account was opened.”

Who can use the HMRC tool, and what you need
GOV.UK says the HMRC tool is for anyone aged 16 or over looking for their own Child Trust Fund, or for a parent or guardian of a child under 18. You need your National Insurance number. If you are looking for a child's fund, you need the child's full name, address and date of birth, and any previous names used by you or the child. The form has to be completed in one go.
Start on GOV.UK's Find a Child Trust Fund page. It says to contact your provider directly if you know who the account is with. If you do not, ask a parent or guardian first, and then HMRC.
What the tool will not tell you
GOV.UK says the tool will not tell you how much money is in a Child Trust Fund. It also says you cannot use the tool to find a Junior ISA. The tool tells you where the account was originally opened, so your next step is to contact that provider, who can tell you the current position.
What happens at 18
GOV.UK's page on what happens when your child is 18 says the child automatically takes over the account and no more money can be added. They can withdraw the money or move it to an adult ISA, and the fund then closes. If the child lacks the mental capacity to manage it, GOV.UK points to a deputyship route.
The overview page on Child Trust Funds says the scheme covered children born between 1 September 2002 and 2 January 2011, and names the Junior ISA as the current alternative.
